TIME OUT.

Today at church I observed the following: A girl who couldn't have been more than 11 or 12 years old reading Breaking Dawn during Sacrament Meeting at the Young Single Adults Ward. There are so many obvious things amiss with this situation that I'm not going to insult your collective intelligence by pointing them out... That is all, for now.

  1. ... I would have ripped it apart during the meeting in front of them. Good grief! I didn't even bring Harry Potter to church when it first came out!

There is something horribly wrong with this world.

AND since when is it ok to read books during sacrament? Especially books about vampire sex??

  2. When it says Jeff, it lies. It means Lili.

  5. I have been bothered by how many 4th grade girls (9 years old) I have seen reading this book. Regardless of whether or not you like the series I think we can all agree that 9 is WAY too young for those books!

  6. My niece will be turning 12 this year, and I have told her she doesn't have permission to read any book in this series until at least junior high. Even then I intend to read them first for content issues. (Oh, the whining! I'm sooo strict! All of her friends... yatta yatta.)

The thing is, I'm not a buddy. I'm a guardian. That's what parents and guardians do. They set rules and limits to let kids know what is and isn't OK to do. I don't know what was going on with the girl in the single adult ward, but I can't help wondering whether she has a parent who wants to be a buddy.
