Summer of 100 (+) Movies

Or, as Matt said, "Summer of Doing Nothing Else but Watching Movies". Ha. Not entirely true.

So yes, I realized my "Recent Movies Watched" list was getting a little out of hand, so I decided to put an archive listing of the summer's films and respective ratings in a blogpost and refresh the list. Even I was surprised at the number of movies I've seen since I came home 5 1/2 months ago, but you know, if you're gone for two years, you have a little leeway to catch up. (Actual count is approximately 106, FYI, not counting the full seasons of TV shows also watched.)
Random statistics:

Top Five:
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • Enchanted
  • Hairspray
  • Shaolin Soccer
  • The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
There are several which came close to making this list (such as Flushed Away, The Prestige, Ironman, to name a few), so they will receive Honorable Mention.

Bottom Five:
  • Spider-Man 3
  • Return with Honor
  • The Singles 2nd Ward
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
  • Happy Feet
The Golden Compass and The Da Vinci Code earn Dishonorable Mention for the bottom list.

Estimated hours spent watching movies: Too many to feel right about posting.

Poll results to the question, "Have I seen too many movies this summer?" were as follows (based on five votes):
  • YES! Good heav, do you do ANYTHING else??? - 1 vote (20%)
  • No, that seems like a perfectly healthy amount of movie watching. - 3 votes (60%)
  • It's all right, I guess, after all, you are catching up from two years of no movies whatsoever. - 1 vote (20%)
  • I am absolutely ambivalent either way. - 0 votes (0%).
Number of "page downs" it took to scroll through the list: 4.
So anyway, nothing new listed below, just a condensed version of the list that's been listed on the right since the end of March. This ought to clear up that sidebar quite nicely. Movies go in order from most recent to least recent seen, starting 24 March 2008, ending 25 August 2008.

  1. I will admit that the vote about watching too many movies was me. But it was just because it said "good heav" in the sentence. Glad that I could be a part of a lot of those! And here's to the next 100. Scrumps!

  2. I think it's quite amusing that OOTP shared the top 5 with Shaolin Soccer. Don't get me wrong, I like Shaolin Soccer, it's crazy funny. But I'm surprised you put it on the same level as OOTP (as far as overall ratings go).

And it does make me cry a little that POTC:AWE shares the bottom with Happy Feet. So sad to see something I love coupled with something I despise. Hopefully I can get over it and we can still be friends.

  3. I loves me some Shaolin Soccer. I need to see it again, it's probably been a few years (due to the extremely geeky people I hung out with in high school, I first saw this movie quite a while ago). Did you see it with subtitles? Those are one of the best parts! I'm also sad to see Pirates in your bottom five. I wouldn't expect it to be in the top, but not that far down. However, it seems you never liked the first one anyway.

  4. Yes, Control, it is a curious mix of Top 5, isn't it? I loved them both for very different reasons. And yes, I have seen it with the subtitles. My quest is to find Shaolin Soccer dubbed in Hmong (because it DOES exist, a companion of mine bought it at a Hmong tournament once... I looked and looked last Saturday, but no luck.) And I mostly drew my top and bottom five based on the ratings I had given them previously.

And I am sorry indeed to you Pirates fans... In fact, I'm REALLY sorry because of the pain I was in during those movies (ZING!). It's true, Mandy, I never have been much of a PotC fan, but I had hopes the next two would impress me more. Alas.

  5. Yes, I once mentioned I was going to do a blogpost called this, and you said that as a joke in response, because it just sounded like so many movies when you say it that way.

  6. Ha ha, at first, I thought you were starting your bottom two by saying Ironman and the Prestige get honorable mentions, and I was about to question your brains, but now I see what you mean. Yes, I completely agree with your top 5 and bottom. Though, a couple out there i would mix up the ratings a bit. Have you seen March of the Penguins yet? That is a good one. Stupid Happy Feet...

  7. Yes, I saw March of the Penguins in theaters when it was still new. I quite liked it, and was satisfactorily distraught during the harsh winter scenes of laying on eggs and whatnot. 1000X better than that stupid Happy Feet.
