My first IKEA visit

So I guess while I was away, IKEA came to Utah. The family all really love it, and today they were heading up and finally managed to get me to tag along. I didn't have anything particularly against going, I'm just not a big shopper, but they promised it wouldn't be long (Elise and Jeff had a couple of exchanges and returns), and they also promised cinnamon rolls. Plus, after the good folks at IKEA were kind enough to hand over to Elise free tickets to an early private screening of Mamma Mia!, so I thought I should pay a visit.

It was pleasant as expected, a fun time and a lot of interesting, posh furniture. Mom and Dad picked up a few small and hip items for the T@B, and Elise and Jeff looked for a bed frame and made their returns. We had lunch in the upstairs food court (great Swedish meatballs and chicken alfredo) and then made our way out. As much as I dislike shopping in general, I didn't mind meandering through the labyrinthine setup, taking in the semi-themed decor and learning to handle the shopping cart (with FOUR swiveling wheels!). I had a seat a few times on the cushy beds while Mom and Dad shopped, and eventually we did have the promised cinnamon rolls (which were good as expected as well) and drove home.

So, though this seems an uneventful post, I thought I should commemorate my first visit to the famous IKEA somehow, and after all, that's what blogs are for.

  1. You aren't the last holdout. I still haven't been. Not that I'm avoiding it, I just had an excuse to go, nor has anyone attempted to persuade me into going either.

  2. I was introduced to it when I moved to MD. It's true that you don't really have to go or even feel like it until you find out that they have a resolution for almost anything. Then it starts coming to your mind when you are in need of some decor or organization.

I haaaaaaaaate those carts. I avoid pushing one at all costs. The cinnamon rolls...meh. I think you get what you pay for. It is nice that they offer little snacks so cheap.

Welcome to the IKEA club. KC thinks it's not real furniture. He thinks it's all temporary. I think it's great for the cheapies like me.

  4. I am a fan. I could buy a dozen things each time I go there. So I try not to go too often! But the carts ARE awful. I once tried to push Julia in her big car seat in one of those. It was terribly difficult.

  5. I am glad you enjoyed yourself. Ikea is just great because they have everything you could possibly think of, and it looks rather posh too. I am afraid, though, that Jeff is with KC on this one, and thinks it is just cheap. I think it is compact, and modern, which I like. Perfect for college students!

  7. Yeah that store is pretty awesome. The cinnamon rolls are my personal favorite. Everything there is also pretty cheap, which is good for me! I am glad that you finally made it over there.

  8. I haven't managed to go yet, and I drive past every day that I work. I am bitter towards them for the traffic problems they caused. It wasn't so much the traffic as it was law enforcement preparing for traffic that never materialized while I was being delayed! There were huge signs saying "Event Parking" (it's a store people, not a concert), and then three lanes of traffic dedicated to the place, while only one lane allowed people to go on down Bangeter. The frustrating part was that the three Ikea lanes were EMPTY! I'm sure that on the weekend they needed all those lanes, but not when people are trying to get to work on Monday morning.

Of course, now it's really that I just haven't had time/ a need to go. I heard about all of these great prices, but when I looked at things online I wasn't impressed, seemed expensive to me. Granted, I'm sure I'd spend wads of cash if I ever actually went in! Anyway, I'm glad you had fun. From what I've heard the food is one of the best reason to go there.
