Year of a Million Dreams indeed!

I ran across a few of these when I was in Appleton, actually, but there have been a couple more released since then, so I had to find them online.

These are a series of (mostly) stunning photos by the apparently famous Annie Liebowitz featuring celebrities as classic Disney characters, in connection with Disney's "Year of a Million Dreams" theme park campaign. Some of these images don't seem entirely natural (in pose or casting), but I thought it would be fun to post the series anyway. If you can find any of these in hard copy, or in bigger digital format, you should take a look because they are gorgeous (and the detail of Tina Fey as Tink is hilarious). So, enjoy! See if any of you can guess my top three...

Scarlett Johansson as Cinderella

David Beckham as Prince Phillip

Beyonce as Alice, Lyle Lovett as the March Hare and Oliver Platt as The Mad Hatter

Tennis player Roger Federer as Arthur

Rachel Weisz as Snow White

Julie Andrews as the Blue Fairy and Abigail Breslin as Fira (of the new Disney Fairies series)

Jessica Biel as Pocahontas

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen as Wendy, dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov as Peter Pan and Tina Fey as Tinker Bell

Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony as Jasmine and Aladdin

Whoopi Goldberg as the Genie

Julianne Moore as Ariel, featuring swimmer Michael Phelps as a merman

Here's detail from the Peter Pan photo. Tina Fey is a great Tink, expression and all!

  1. Interesting. THey all look a little old to me, and Peter Pan is a little creepy. But mostly they are beautiful! I've got to go find the picture of Tina Fey now.

  3. Those are awesome. I love th Peter pan one, where he is like, "Hey-a!" Those are very interesting. Though I probably would have picked a few different people for some of them. OH, this is Lili, posting, by the way.

  4. I don't know about your favorites, but my three favorites are Cinderella, Prince Phillip and Snow White. They're so dramatic, and, I think, the best cast (although I don't like Scarlett Johansson at alllll in anything else). But I guess part of this whole idea is putting unexpected people into them, like Beyonce and Gisele. Anyway. *ramble ramble*

Now I'm just waiting for them to do The Lion King with a celebrity lion.

  5. I actually saw the Ariel picture in a magazine the other day, but not the others. I can't name your top three. I would have thought that it would be Aladdin, but the guy playing him probably isnt your fav. But guessing I would say your top three are Cinderella, Snow White, and perhaps Ariel? I don't really know, why dont you tell me.

  6. I think I'll let a few more guesses in, and then I'll reveal my favorites. Also, check the update for detail on the Peter Pan photo.

  7. my favorites are the prince philip, cinderella, snow white and, oddly enough, ariel (even though i really don't care for Scarlett Johannsen or David Beckham). i think i like the look of the shots the best - the casting in those four doesn't stand out as much because of the feel of the shots - they are a little more "natural" and in tune with the characters.

although i like tina fey as tink - wendy and peter kind of bug me.

and the pocahontas one is just bad. the pose is so stiff.

i have more to say, but will leave it at that.

  9. Those are amazing! Or rather, I think the idea is amazing, and a few of the photos actually are. I agree with Lindsey that Pocahontas looks totally stiff, but at the same time (and I hate to admit it) I actually think Jessica Biel works for it. The Alice in Wonderland one is a little weird all around, but I LOVE Rachel Weisz as Snow White and Tina Fey is perfect. Also I'm not sure how much I love the actual photo, but I love the idea of Julie Andrews as the blue fairy.

  10. Here I am, five years later and it is time to finally announce my top three!!! I'm sure everyone has been dying to know and checking back regularly to see when I was finally going to post... Anyway, I *think* my top three were Cinderella, Prince Phillip and probably The Little Mermaid. My love for Aladdin as my favorite is well-documented, and I do like that one, but I don't think I like the actors they picked for that one as well. And I do love that little Tina Fey Tinker Bell too, but not the Peter Pan photo as a whole.

There have been a few more of these since then too, some good, some not so good. It's always interesting to see them when they pop up.
