Oh, yeah, and I'm currently in a bit of a tiff because of the state of current Mormon cinema... The most recent two were just atrocious. I can't even bring myself to review them in detail, I just want to forget all about them, but I post this about them as a word of warning. Watch them if you must, but they are getting worse and worse.
As for my opinion, the only "Mormon Movies" that have meant anything at all are Richard Dutcher's, because they actually SAY something (not to mention a relatively high level of cinematic production quality). His aren't movies made merely to mock Mormons. It is sad to me that the degeneration of the genre that he pioneered seems to have had a significant hand in his decision to leave the Church. :(
Maybe someday I'll do a more substantial dissertation on my thoughts about Mormon movies.
Yes. Crazy times. I don't love those dumb mormon movies. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteIf there is ever another Richard Dutcher film made it will be Zion to me!

Ha ha! YES! The Weed of Sentimentality!
ReplyDeletehey drew, out of curiosity, have you seen richard dutcher's most recent movie? i think it's called "falling" but i'm not sure. what do you think of it (whether you've seen it or not)?
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't. I saw the trailer, which looked... intriguing and slightly disturbing at the same time, but I have not seen it yet. I actually haven't heard that much about it, but his website seems to indicate it's getting good reviews. *shrug*
